Two were airlifted to an Albany hospital after an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed head-on into a 74-year-old woman in the Hudson Valley.

New York State Police troopers on patrol on Route 212 in Saugerties at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 came upon a two-car crash that left both vehicles with extensive front-end damage.

Police said that a 2005 Audi A4 driven by Chappaqua resident David Lowy collided with a 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by Ulster County resident Ann Tucker, of Shandaken.

Tucker suffered leg injuries in the crash, and both drivers were airlifted to the Albany Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries, while a passenger in Lowy’s car was taken to Dutchess Hospital.

While investigating the crash and speaking with Lowy, it was determined that he was impaired by drugs, and he was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Lowy, 64, was released following his arrest and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Saugerties Court on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
